Graduate Internships 2018

The Fresh Produce Exporters Forum (FPEF) employs a number of initiatives to bring about transformation in the fresh fruit export industry. The FPEF Graduate Internship Program places high calibre graduates in junior commercial roles at various South African fruit export companies for one year, potentially leading to long term career opportunities. The aim of this programme is to integrate a growing group of talented black individuals into the commercial heart of the industry. This is your opportunity to enter the dynamic, fast growing and competitive world of international fruit sales and marketing!

Intern responsibilities:

• Plan and coordinate relevant administrative, logistical and operational matters.
• Plan, lead and coordinate managerial functions as defined by the company.
• Process and organise information.
• Ensure effective communication and administration in a complex supply chain. The variety of responsibilities will develop together with the intern’s skills levels.

Application requirements:

• BSc degree or BA degree in: Marketing / Logistics / Agricultural Economics / SocioInformatics / Agriculture.
• Good verbal and written English communication skills.
• Proficiency in Afrikaans will be advantageous.
• High degree of computer literacy.
• Collect, organise and critically analyse information.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Self-confident and strong negotiation skills.
• Collaborative teamwork and leadership skills.
• Ambitious, self-motivated and results-driven.
• Problem solver able to perform well under pressure.
• Integrity, sound ethics and high standards for self and others.
• Applicants must be under the age of 30.
Remuneration: The respective organisations undertake to provide mentorship and market-related remuneration as applicable to interns.

TECHNICAL MANAGER

The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) is looking for an experienced manager to develop and implement industry technical programs and oversee industry research projects.

The ideal candidate will have an MSc (Agric) degree in Horticulture or similar qualification, at least 5 years’ experience, and sound working knowledge of fruit production. A valid driver’s license is essential.

The successful candidate must be able to:
• Manage a small team of professional technical staff
• Effectively coordinate industry research committees to ensure that research needs are determined and addressed through appropriate research projects.
• Work with external stakeholders such as researchers, chemical companies and government officials.
• Communicate at all levels- from small grower to member association boards
• Communicate scientific information to a non-scientific audience
• Competently carry out administrative tasks in a well organised manner.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST: MARKET ACCESS Tzaneen

The South African Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) is looking for a technical specialist to drive technical / phytosanitary matters relating to access for avocados, litchis and mangoes to export markets.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a BSc Hons degree in entomology or plant pathology, least 2-3 years’ experience, and a sound knowledge of phytosanitary issues affecting fruit exports. A valid driver’s license is essential.

The successful candidate must be:

• Well organised and competent in administrative tasks
• Able to work with government officials relating to market access applications
• Competent in report writing and a good communicator
• Able to travel
